Prepositional Phrase sebagai Kata Benda (Noun)

Meskipun tidak umum, pada beberapa kasus prepositional phrases atau frase preposisi (in front of …, after …, without…, outside of…) bisa berperan sebagai subyek atau subject complement dalam struktur sebuah kalimat. Dengan memposisikan prepositional phrase sebagai noun sebenarnya ada keterangan implisit yang tidak tertera.

Perhatikan contoh berikut:

(The time) Before breakfast is a good time to work out.

Kita mengeliminasi frase “the time” pada kalimat di atas, karena sebenarnya preposisi “before” sudah menjelaskan bahwa kalimat berbicara mengenai waktu.

• My cat’s favorite place is on top of the drawer.
• Without onion is my favorite ramen  recipe.
• About him is the story I no longer want to hear.
• With your family is the best you could only hope for now.
• Among my friends was the thing I wanted to be.
• Between thighs is the worst place to hold a glass.
