Numeral adjective atau adjective of number adalah kata sifat yang menerangkan jumlah kata benda yang mengikutinya. Numeral adjective pun terbagi lagi menjadi 3 kategori, yakni definite numeral adjective, indefinite numeral adjective, dan distributive numeral adjective.
Definite Numeral Adjective
Adjective ini menerangkan jumlah yang spesifik atau angka pasti. Ada dua definite numeral adjective, yakni cardinal dan ordinal.
Cardinal : one, two, three
Ordinal : first, second, third
Contoh :
a). Beni is her second son.
b). I bought five pairs of shoes yesterday.
Indefinite Numeral Adjective
Adjective ini menerangkan keterangan jumlah yang tidak spesifik atau bukan angka pasti, seperti all, several, some, no, many, any, certain, dll.
Contoh :
a) All students are required to bring their own lunches every Friday.
b) I spilled some milk on my sister’s book.
Distributive Numeral Adjective
Each, every, either, neither
Contoh:
a) Either phone would be fine.
b) Each person has his/her own uniqueness.
Distributive Numeral Adjective harus diikuti oleh kata benda dan kata kerja tunggal (singular), kecuali untuk terdapat “of” di setelah distributive numeral adjective seperti, each of, either of dan seterusnya.
