Pengertian dan Contoh Past Continuous Tense

Past continuous tense adalah tense yang berfungsi untuk menyatakan bahwa suatu aksi atau perbuatan yang sedang terjadi di masa lampau.  Past continous tense dibentuk dengan auxiliary verb “be” past (was, were), diikuti oleh present participle (verb 1+ing). Perhatikan rumus di bawah :

subject + was/were + present participle + (object) + (adverb)

Selain itu, past continous tense juga berfungsi untuk menyatakan perbuatan yang sudah dimulai dan masih berlangsung ketika perbuatan lain menyusul. Sama seperti progressive tense lainnya, tense ini umumnya hanya terjadi pada dynamic verbs dan tidak pada stative verbs.

1. I was watching movie when my boyfriend came last night.
2. What were they writing at 3 in the morning?
3. I was called when I was reading my new book.
4. Brianne and John weren’t going to London.
5. Father and I were jogging at this time yesterday.
